Endoscopic Septoplasty

Endoscopic Septoplasty

Endoscopic Septoplasty is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to correct a deviated nasal septum — the wall between the two nasal passages — using an endoscope (a thin, flexible tube with a camera). This approach offers greater precision, less trauma, and quicker recovery compared to traditional methods.

Types

  • Conventional Septoplasty – Performed without an endoscope, using open access.
  • Endoscopic Septoplasty – Uses a nasal endoscope for enhanced visibility and accuracy; ideal for mild to moderate deviations or revision surgeries.

Causes of Deviated Septum

  • Birth defects or congenital conditions
  • Injury or trauma to the nose (accidents, sports injuries)
  • Uneven growth during childhood

Symptoms

  • Nasal congestion, especially on one side
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Frequent sinus infections
  • Nosebleeds
  • Snoring or sleep disturbances
  • Facial pain or pressure

Treatment

Endoscopic Septoplasty is performed under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon corrects the deviated septum internally using small tools and an endoscope, with no visible cuts or scars. The procedure typically lasts 30–60 minutes, and patients usually go home the same day.

Prevention

While not all cases are preventable (especially congenital ones), you can reduce the risk of septal deviation by:

  • Wearing protective gear during contact sports
  • Avoiding trauma to the nose
  • Seeking early treatment for nasal fractures or injuries

Benefits

  • Improved nasal breathing
  • Reduced snoring and better sleep
  • Fewer sinus infections and headaches
  • Faster healing with minimal discomfort
  • No external scars
