Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy

Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the inside of your nasal passages and sinus openings using a thin, flexible tube with a camera (endoscope). It allows ENT specialists to get a clear view of the nasal cavity, septum, turbinates, and sinus drainage areas.

Types of Nasal Endoscopy

  • Rigid Nasal Endoscopy – Uses a straight scope for high-definition viewing, typically done in a clinic.
  • Flexible Nasal Endoscopy – Uses a bendable scope, often more comfortable and ideal for detailed visualization of deeper nasal and throat structures.

Common Causes

  • Chronic nasal congestion or blockage
  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Unexplained nosebleeds
  • Nasal polyps or tumors
  • Loss of smell (anosmia)
  • Deviated nasal septum
  • Persistent facial pain or pressure

Symptoms That May Require Endoscopy

  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Frequent headaches or facial pain
  • Postnasal drip or mucus buildup
  • Persistent sneezing or allergy-like symptoms
  • Recurrent nosebleeds

What Can It Diagnose or Treat?

  • Nasal polyps or cysts
  • Deviated septum or turbinate hypertrophy
  • Chronic or recurrent sinusitis
  • Fungal sinus infections
  • Structural abnormalities
  • Early signs of nasal tumors
  • Foreign bodies in children

Prevention & Follow-Up Care

While the procedure itself is diagnostic, it helps in early detection and timely treatment — which is key to preventing complications like chronic sinusitis or nasal blockages. After diagnosis, treatment may include medications, nasal sprays, allergy management, or surgery.
