Ear Lobe Repair

Ear lobe repair is a minor surgical procedure to correct torn, stretched, or deformed ear lobes due to trauma, heavy earrings, or gauges. It restores the natural shape and appearance of the ear.

Types of Ear Lobe Damage

  • Complete Split – The ear lobe is fully torn from the bottom.
  • Partial Tear – The earring hole is stretched or partially torn.
  • Stretched Lobes – Often caused by heavy earrings or ear gauging.
  • Irregular Shape or Scarred Lobes – Due to previous injuries or piercings.

Treatment Options

  • Performed under local anesthesia with minimal discomfort
  • Involves removing scar tissue and stitching the lobe to restore its shape
  • Re-piercing can usually be done after healing (typically 6–8 weeks)

Common Causes

  • Wearing heavy earrings over long periods
  • Accidental pulling or trauma
  • Improper piercing techniques
  • Use of gauges or stretchers

Symptoms

  • Visible tear or elongation of the earlobe
  • Pain, swelling, or bleeding (in case of trauma)
  • Difficulty wearing earrings due to stretched or torn holes
  • Cosmetic concern or embarrassment

Prevention Tips

  • Avoid heavy earrings or limit their usage
  • Remove earrings while sleeping or during physical activity
  • Choose proper piercing locations and techniques
  • Be cautious with children and pets around earrings
